| Introduction - About us |
|
Situated on the foreshore of the Swan River at Nedlands overlooking the broad expanse of Melville Water, with wide lush lawns and sandy Nedlands Yacht Club has grown from a small club sailing VJs in 1953 to a club that supports many different classes of boats, from small monohull dinghies to medium monohull dinghies; fast catamarans including Nacras, Tornados and Hobies; and cruisers which include family cruisers as well as fast sports boats. We concentrate on sailing boats and the only power boats at the club belong to the club as support boats. NYC has always been a family oriented, vibrant and friendly club. Some NYC families have reached four generations of members. We are a self help club, able to minimize costs using resources given voluntarily by club members. New members are always welcome and will find many members eager to share their knowledge.
Training is conducted on Sunday mornings with the races in the afternoon. Training for juniors is also conducted during school holidays.
We sail on Sundays from October to April excluding long weekends, and once a month for the winter frostbite series. A Cat Classic starts the season in late September. If you don’t want to sail but enjoy being on the water then come down, as you may be able to help on our Support boats. Our large, air-conditioned Club House has unrestricted river views and is a great place to hold functions.
New members are invited to become part of our community! Explore our website and come and meet us.

Safety is of prime importance and all sailing is governed with strict safety requirements. Through a Healthy Club grant from Healthway and Sports Medicine Western Australia we have expanded our health and safety outreach. Our club organises and subsidises First Aid and CPR training for our members and we provide the National Power Boat Handling Certificate training to our volunteers. We provide appropriate and comfortable PFDs and it is our policy that students, volunteers and members use safety equipment at our club.
