First Aid
First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Course

Senior First Aid Certificate

This class is useful not only for sailing but at home, work and around the community. This certificate is recognised in the workplace.

Content:

o Apply the principles of first aid

o Recognition and management of emergency situations

o Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)

o Treatment of infection, shock, fractures, bleeding and burns

o Emergencies due to lack of oxygen, excess heat or cold

o Recognition and management of medical conditions that may need emergency care, including heart attack, stroke, asthma, diabetes and epilepsy

o Management of common medical emergencies

o Treatment of poisoning including venomous bites and stings

Where: Nedlands Yacht Club

When: To be announced early in the 2010 season (after September 2010). Two Saturdays, 9am to 4pm - both days attendance is required.

Certification:

On successful completion, participants will obtain a SLSWA Senior First Aid Certificate, SLSWA Resuscitation Certificate and Statement of Attainment that includes the following units of competence:

o HLTCPR201A - Perform CPR

o HLTFA201A Provide basic emergency life support

o HLTFA301A Apply first aid

By: Surf Life Saving WA (course will be targeted at water safety and resuscitation)

Cost: $70 Members, $142 Non-members (payable to Wendy two weeks before course starts)

Numbers: Minimum 8, Maximum 15 First come first served basis
