The 50th HMAS Perth Memorial Regatta will be held on Sunday 21 Feburary 2010 at Nedlands Yacht Club. The regatta honors Royal Australian Naval mariners lost in battle, especially the many lives lost on 1 March 1942 when the HMAS Perth and USS Houston were lost in battle in the Sundra Strait near Java.
The annual memorial event is held in association with the HMAS Perth Survivors Association and the Naval Association of Australia (Fremantle sub-section). There will be a tribute to Captain Hector Waller, DSO, RAN, and the crew of HMAS Perth, lost in action on 1 March 1942. The presentation will be followed by the annual regatta on the Swan River.
