| July Sewerage Update |
SEWERAGE PROJECT Update from Barrie Dimond, NYC Management Committee and Sewerage Project Manager The Commodore has signed a contract with West Coast Plumbing to carry out the work necessary to install a pumping station and pressure main to the Club boundary. It has also been agreed to have West Coast complete the internal plumbing required to connect all the various facilities at the club to the pumping station. At this stage work has begun. The arrangement is to bore under the roadway to the club boundary to install the pressure main so as not to dig up the roadway. To get the sewage to the pump station, which will be in the lawn in front of the YWA office but mainly underground, there will be a gravity main which will also be bored under the main carpark. The original design was modified to lower the pump station to allow for the gravity main and thus avoid the need for a second pump station. While a lot of the initial pipe work can proceed the installation of the pump station is awaiting the imminent arrival of the containment well which is being manufactured in Moora. No local (Perth) firms could do it inside a couple of months. West Coast have assured me that the plan is to keep using the old septic until the last minute when everything can be connected up ensuring minimum disruption to the club. In the meantime the Nedlands City Council’s contractor has nearly completed the extension of the pressure main along the Esplanade which also includes the installation of gas traps to the adjoining properties to avoid toxic gases entering the residences as a result of the pressure from the pumping station. It is not a straight forward project. All going well we should be all connected up before next season and everyone will be happy except maybe the Treasurer.
