Nedlands Yacht Club has one of the best positions on the river for 'Off the Beach' sailing. The wide lawns, sandy beaches and protected water make launching the dinghies and multihulled yachts an easy task, especially with many eager hands to help. The club races fleets for Juniors, as well as medium sized dinghies, cruisers, sports boats, and catamarans for all ages. The Junior fleet has small monohull dinghies such as Manly Juniors. The medium sized dinghies have 2 fleets, the Flying 11 section and the National 125 section, while the Open Cat fleet is a section comprising very fast Tornados and Nacras. The Hobie fleet is very large and has 2 divisions, A and B. The Cruiser fleet also runs 2 divisions, with division 2 catering for fast sports boats such as Elliots and fast Cruisers, and division 3/4 catering for the slower cruisers including Red Witches, Spacesailer 22s, and some 24ft cruisers such as Roberts 24, MB24s, as well as fast boats with inexperienced crews such as S20s.
Training Courses are available for beginners and those wishing to improve their sailing. Students are encouraged to practise new skills through the Sunday sailing activities. Other training courses are conducted from First Aid Courses to Race Duties. Visit our Training page for more information. Nedlands Yacht Club is a friendly, energetic club dedicated to promoting the enjoyment and knowledge of sailing, and making sailing accessible for all. If you would like to have a sail come down and introduce yourself to the Officer of the Day who will help you to find a position on a boat. Non-members are able to participate in 3 races free of charge before they are expected to become members. |
