Try Sailing with NYC
Never sailed before but keen to give it a go?
Then Nedlands Yacht Club is the place for you!
If you’re a first-time sailor and don’t want to commit to a series of formal classes just yet, you are welcome to join us on Sunday afternoons from October to April for the club racing season. We welcome you to have a go on any boat at the club for a total of two races for free. If after two weeks you’re eager to keep sailing, our members can help you find an affordable membership that suits your sailing interests.
We are hosting a FREE try sailing day on Saturday 23rd September 2017
Enjoy a FREE day of sailing with friends and family on one of our off the beach boats at Nedlands Yacht Club
Come along, get out on the water, get active and see how exciting sailing can be for all ages
Looking for a friendly team environment where you can learn from lots of people at your own pace? Our experienced cruiser skippers will happily welcome you on board their boats and show you the ropes. Cruisers are larger boats typically sailed by teams of 3-6 people. The cruiser fleet at NYC is a varied group, ranging from slower boats designed with leisure sailing in mind to fast sports boats designed for speed and competition. The cruiser fleet races nearly every Sunday afternoon from October to April, and there is always space available for a few extra crew members. New sailors are invited to come to the Main Clubhouse between 11:30 hrs and 12:00 hrs to fill in a temporary membership form and get allocated a boat.
If you’re looking for more of a challenge, NYC has fleets of monohull National 125s and catamarans (mostly Hobie 16s) racing nearly every Sunday afternoon from October to April. These boats are sailed by two people and require a keen attitude, moderate level of physical fitness, and a willingness to come up close and personal with the Swan River.
Our Galley is open on Sundays for sandwiches, wraps and other hot food to enjoy after your day on the river. Couple this with an ice cold drink from the bar and you will be hooked! Contact fleet captains through emailing email@example.com to see if there are any skippers in need of a crew member.
