Winter Series 2020
Winter Series Sunday 2nd August and Sunday 6th September 2020
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, this year was unique compared to past years of winter sailing. As the news ran around that events had to be cancelled, our plans were put on hold.
Luckily, stage 4 restrictions came into place two weeks before our second winter series race day was scheduled. Behind the scenes, we rushed to organise a regatta in limited time. SIs and an NoR went out promptly and soon enough sailors rushed to the foreshore.
It was obvious that our sailors had been itching to get on the water, as we had more than 20 boats, with the biggest open cat fleet seen down here in years. Many boats travelled from Jervois bay and Royal Fresh Bay Yacht Club to join our keen sailors.
The first race day; mother nature was not on our side. The wind decided to die once we were rigged (at 10am) and decided not to come back until 1pm. Sitting on the luscious grass for hours, you can imagine we were all overjoyed when the bar opened up. The first race started not long after 1pm and it was a cruisy sea breeze, the Freo doctor was in!
The next race day is scheduled for the 6th of September, it will be a thrilling fathers day I’m sure.
